Psalm 15

1Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle?
Who may dwell in Your holy hill?

He who walks uprightly,
    And works righteousness,
    And speaks the truth in his heart;
He who does not backbite with his tongue,
    Nor does evil to his neighbor,
    Nor does he take up a reproach against his friend;
In whose eyes a vile person is despised,
    But he honors those who fear the Lord;
He who swears to his own hurt and does not change;
He who does not put out his money at usury,
    Nor does he take a bribe against the innocent.

He who does these things shall never be moved.

In this very straightforward psalm, we see the characteristics of a person who is in the right heart for worshiping God.

I don’t have much to say about many things, since I think that they’re obvious. I did look up the Greek for a couple of words, just to see if they could shed any new meaning on the verses:
Uprightly (verse 2), ἄμωμος-blamelessly
Backbite (verse 3), ἐδόλωσεν- ensnare

He who swears to his own hurt and does not change
Leviticus 5:10 talks about keeping oaths, even ones you didn’t know about. The Bible highlights the severity of swearing oaths on several occasions, but the person in this psalm keeps his oath no matter what, even if it is detrimental to him. It is important to stand by our words no matter what.

He who does these things shall never be moved.
When we walk with God and don’t do bad things to people, we cannot be moved. It’s a pretty simple formula. We need to examine ourselves to make sure that we are really following God to make sure that we will not be shaken in our faith.
