Psalm 54

[Remember that 53 is with 14]

1Save me, O God, by Your name,
And vindicate me by Your strength.
Hear my prayer, O God;
Give ear to the words of my mouth.
For strangers have risen up against me,
And oppressors have sought after my life;
They have not set God before them. Selah

Behold, God is my helper;
The Lord is with those who uphold my life.
He will repay my enemies for their evil.
Cut them off in Your truth.

I will freely sacrifice to You;
I will praise Your name, O Lord, for it is good.
For He has delivered me out of all trouble;
And my eye has seen its desire upon my enemies.

The Lord is with those who uphold my life.
Never underestimate the friends that God has put in your life. Most times, when we call out for God’s help, God isn’t all about pulling out the deus ex machina to get you out of your really, really ridiculously huge problem. Sometimes, he uses some unexpected people around you to help you out. Hadji saved Dr. Quest’s life when they first met and became Jonny’s best friend. Finn saved Jake from that evil witch's butt. And, how many times do Scooby and Shaggy get each other out of (and into) trouble?
Don't tell me you don't love this show.

When I was trying to get back to Lawrence after Christmas last year, my train stopped in Kansas City for over two hours. I could have gotten off the train and taken a taxi home faster. I was getting really antsy after the first 20 minutes because the person picking me up had to be somewhere in the morning. After an hour, I told her what happened, and she asked if I could find another way home. I don’t blame her, it was after midnight. But, I was sitting on that train, getting worried, almost to the point of tears. I had been traveling for over 24 hours and just wanted to get home and go to sleep. I hate to admit it, but when I found out that we had stopped for a man who said he was having chest pain, was looked at by medics, and then got back on the train, I was livid. I’m glad he was okay and all, but if you’re going to have chest pains bad enough to stop the train, then GET OFF THE FRIGGIN’ TRAIN. Ahem. I finally called someone else to come get me. I felt awful calling her after midnight and asking her to come get me at the train station, but I was desperate. And I really wanted to get home. When she came for me, she brought me a cup of tea and actually thanked me for calling her. I was dumbfounded that someone would do that. Here I was, getting all upset that I had no way home and calling her as a last resort and feeling horrible for inconveniencing her. And she was happy to help me. We weren’t even that close up to that point. Without her, I don’t know what I would have done. Probably cried a little then called a taxi, but still, it seemed like a big problem to me at the time, but God put someone there who could help me out of it and be happy about helping me out of it.
